June Poetry: A Day In May... by Katie Age 10 It’s bright and sunny out today On this fine day in May I wish I could go out and play But I’m stuck doing chores all day There’s a bright sunny ray Reflecting off the bay There’s not a touch of gray Oh, how I wish I could go play If I work hard and don’t delay I might be able to play today I’m finished… Hooray! Now I can go out and play Yeah! Wind by Kat Age 10 The wind is a hidden sprit It howls when distressed It's calm and graceful at times It can and will destroy That is if needed The wind expresses itself In a way you'll never know Howl wind howl for you are you and we are we expressing ourselves at different times and in different ways Universal Peace by Katelyn Age 10 It would be really strange if The world turned upside and all the water fell out All the land masses of the world come together and shout We believe in universal peace, and that's where we stand No more garbage no more trash no more kiddies crying for mommy’s hand We believe in universal peace and that’s where we stand! Fly Away by Bobbi Age 12 Fly away, Take me far away To a special place Fly away, Take me far away To save me and my name Fly away, Take me far away And let me go Let me free Let me spread my own wings Let my spirit go Fly away Let me fly away Moving by Maryanne Age 13
Moving to a new place Wondering will it be full of grace Walking in to your new home Seeing how different everything is The hardest thing about moving Is going to a new school You've had learned that whatever happens You'll always raise your chin Walking into the classroom Not recognizing any face Then you start to feel a bit lonely Till a student walks up to you and ask to be your friend It makes think that you could fit in And then you feel a little happy at the end! Butterfly Secrets by Kristin Age 17 The sun today seems to stay out longer, The stars at night seem to burn stronger, The days feel warmer then they usually do, The sky is a beautiful, bright , hue of blue. The air has a crisp refreshing smell, A breeze brushes through my hair with a secret to tell. Quietly it whispers in my ear, So soft and low I could barley hear. Then I just smile, I know what it said, Because butterflies begin to flutter around in my head. Pure happiness then leads them straight to my heart, just thinking of you makes this procedure start. Love has arrived and is here to stay, like the butterflies said I will love you always! So Do They by Sarah Age 12 The stars are heavenly angels, Looking down upon us, And when we experience feelings, So Do They. When we feel joyful, So Do They. And the suns are angels’ smiles. When we feel sad, So Do They. And the rainfalls are angels’ tears. When we feel madness, So Do They. And the rumbling thunders are angels fighting When we feel sorrow, So Do They. And the lightning bolts are angels’ heartbreaks. When we feel loneliness, So Do They. And the snowflakes are parts of angels’ lonely souls. When we have feelings, So Do They. And their feelings are Mother Nature’s Seasons. The Summer is a joyful sun. The Fall is a sorrowful lighting flash. The Winter is a lonely snowflake. The Spring is a refreshing rainfall. When I Am At Bat by David Age 10 When I am at bat, I hear the whack, the thwack, the strength in my bat, After I commence, it gives me joy to see the ball sailing over the fence. Lost by Emily Age 10 Cool, look at that big hill! I`d like to climb it, maybe I will. Up,Up,and Up I go. Where this will lead to, I don`t know. Yes,Yes I like to explore. Maybe I`ll wander just a little bit more. Look at the toad, look at the tree. Oh the amazing things I see. I think it's getting colder, oh my gosh, look at that boulder. Where is the cabin, where am I. I don't know, but I won't cry. Should I go east? Should I go west? You know, getting lost is not the best. I better find home it's getting late, if I don't I'll end up bear bait. What do I hear? I think someone is near. It's my Dad calling my name!!! I am so glad he came. There's about 30 people looking for me. They are all worried as worried can be. For this terrible day, I am to blame. Some people would say shame, shame shame. There's one thing I learned, I won't do that again. It's the worst day that's ever been. Remembering our heroes - Remembrance Day by Areeb Age 13 That day of liberty That sight of grief Is a catastrophic part Of our history This day reminds us When our soldiers died When their mothers wept And their widows cried When hearts were broken But hands were joined When tears ran While eyes shined When every single life Had it's own story When fighting for the country Meant dying for the glory The demolished houses The cries of the orphans The sounds of the gunshots The blasts of the cannons The sight of the corpses The blood on the tombstones The roses on the graves and the crackling of the bones The whole planet was a graveyard It felt like living hell It looked like Armageddon Which no psychic could foretell People spent long nights Praying for the best Wherever you looked, you saw A face that was distressed At last our prayers were answered Our captive souls were free Our thick chains were broken We were out of misery O! Valiant soldiers Your courage was so true There is no doubt, that now WE SALUTE YOU! I know a place down a hill by Amber Age 12 I know a place down a hill To get there you must go up a hill Behind a tree Beside a flea Before you get there you must talk to a hare Below a fence Between the rocks Beneath the branches Then you are at the hill. Winter by Sherron Age 11 From the first flake that falls 'Til the last drop of snow melts I am enveloped in a dazzling whirl of snow flakes Like angel wings they fall from the heavens only to crash on the ground already cushioned by it's friends Life seems to pause as I walk down this road though As the sun vanishes being blocked by the crying clouds Some call this cold, bleak, stop of time depressing But I want to dance in this glorious road for all eternity Seasons by Molly Age 10 Seasons come and seasons go, sometimes rain and sometimes snow. In spring April flowers bloom, then in May thunder goes "boom". Another Day by Becky Age 13 Another day another dime another song another rhyme another chance to do things right another chance to give it your might another heart broken another one fixed another idea approved another one hexed another game won another game lost another big victory another big cost when you wake up one morning thinking it's the one you know it, you see it in everyone you come home that night, it wasn't the day you might laugh, cry or just say hey bad day why even bother don't worry because there will be another The Perfect Love by Sonya Age 15
The perfect love is so realistic that’s also so fake. It lives within the heart, yet the heart is what it breaks. Its touch is so real that you can never seem to feel it. Its peace is never ending, yet it never seemed to start. It holds me in its hands so soft and so kind. This is where people say that true love is really blind. They walk and wonder where their true love might be, But true love is a myth made up of what people seem to believe. Some think of love at first sight. Others think of love as a long term kind of like. I think of love as a secret between two Where their feelings for each other always seem to be renewed. They hold each other through night and day And side-by-side they go to church to pray. The perfect love is too fragile to hold, yet Within in the heart is where it molds. Maybe that’s why the heart is what’s broken When another’s love is never spoken. So in some eyes the perfect love is a myth, But within another’s eyes, it’s truly a gift. Life, Love, and Devotion by Stevie Age 13
My life has been so meaningful My life has been so sweet But ever since you've entered it You,ve made it feel complete I give you my heart, my mind, And my soul So please don't walk all over me Or even a short stroll Because although I may seem strong My emotions are so weak My heart has been broken before And now it's risen to its peak But with this love I do so trust That our love is true And not just lust My emotions are forever And yours I hope so too Just one more thing to say..... I LOVE YOU The Earth by Kassandra Age 10
The grass is green, The sky is blue, Protect your earth and it will you. A Special Friend by Meghan Age 11
A special friend. The one who always, No matter what, Tried to make you smile When you were down. The one who gave you their love, And only asked For a friendship in return. The one who always laughed at your jokes, Even if they weren't funny. The one who always Tried to make you feel better When you cried, Even when it was hard. The one who accepted You for you. The one who could never Be replaced. A special friend. Thank you For being that friend. The Perfect Cat by Rachel Age 11
My cat just grew another ear, He's really quite a creature. I brought him in for show and tell, I think He scared my teacher. He's really weird yet really cool and likes his mouse of rubber, He likes to play and sleep all day, and likes to bite my brother. He has three legs and limps around, He often falls upon the ground, so sitting now is what he does, and chews up all the things he loves. He missing hair from here to there, to everyone He's quite a scare. Nobody upon the block likes the looks of he, but I don't care, we're still a pair, He's just the cat for me. The unstudied test by Rachel Age 11
I must remember when I get home, to study in my room alone. I have a test at school tomorrow, and if I don't study, I'll fill up with sorrow. For "The test will be hard" at least my teacher said. So I will definitely study, even in bed. But first I'll go outside and play, with all the neighbor kids today. And then I'll take a long-long walk, with my dog, around the block. Then I'll take a little swim, and climb a tree until it ends. After that I'll plant a garden which get me really muddy, So I will take a shower and go to bed, Oh shoot, I didn't study! Stars by Rachel Age 11
I looked up at the starry night, the stars are shining soft and bright. They seem so light, they seem so free, they sit around so happily. Shining off a fiery glow, they seem more like a Broadway show. When it's dark go sit outside, and stare up at the twinkling sky. You'll find them very interesting, they seem to dance and smile and sing. What a nice and pretty sight, to stare up at a starry night. Sailing by Rachel Age 11
Riding in a sailing boat, upon the shiny waves I float. Looking at the deep blue sea, the fish are swimming happily. And all this time I'm lookin out, to see the setting sun about. Big and Little by Rachel Age 11
To an ant I am a giant, to a tree I'm nothing big, to a leaf I'm surely something, to a house I'm like a twig. I am big compared to a rock, to a sailboat, I'm pretty little. Then Big Ben clock is big to me, but I am bigger than a whistle. There are teeny-tiny little things, and things I look up to see, but no matter how big or little, I know I will always be me.
Cycle of Snow by Denise Age 11 The cycle of snow Is nothing too new, And something you should know. So now I tell you, Starting careful and slow, The cycle of snow. It comes upon a winter day, A perfect flake In every way. Carefully, it falls to ground. Right now it melts, But soon will stay. After a day and night It piles up high. Until it seems quite right. If you sneak a peak At the sight You’ll find a world of total white. Children play the biggest role In the cycle of snow. Hiding in a snow-hole, Or an igloo too. Making snowmen and angels, And having snowball fights until they get ice-cold. Without our pets, you know, The cycle would not exist. Well… everyone’s gotta go! Yes, unfortunately snow is the potty To all the pets around. I think that’s why the kids are told Never to eat the snow. There you have it, Simple and clear, Having not missed a bit… The cycle of snow, So simple to remember As we all know it. Dream Lost by Taryn Age 12
Sitting on the porch of the new apartment, Holding the rag doll of my long forgotten past. I can remember a backyard as wide as a mile, spinning with my face to the wind. Although that is gone, With my face to the land, I will face the world! The Next Door Neighbors by Rachel Age 11
The Neighbors on the left of us, they seem a little strange. Whenever they get money, they throw out all their change. Their mailbox is a 12-foot tube from their house out to their yard, The back is filled with 20 dogs, over half are Saint Benards. The kids dress up in black and white, (well one wears dog-do green.) The snake that slithers upon the porch is the longest I have seen.Their grass is over two feet tall. (By now it's probably four.) There's pink stuff hanging off the walls, and green stuff on the door. Who knows what that drippy stuff is on the tip top of their house, there's many holes upon the walls, in each one there lives a mouse. The neighbors on the left of us, their weird in everyway. I can't wait for tomorrow, when I can go inside and play. The Weird Pet by Rachel Age 11
My mom just got back from the vet, With her their was our brand new pet. I'm not sure if it's a real one yet, for I've never seen wings on a dog like a jet. Not only does it fly around, it also sinks into the ground. It runs like the wind and hops like a rabbit, I really wish it would forget those awful habits. Diapers by Rachel Age 11
I do not like to change my brother's diapers, not at all. It's not fun to change his diapers, I'd much rather eat a hog. They smell so bad and smell so strong I have to plug my nose. The worst thing about his diapers is when they leak into his clothes. To change my brother's diapers is such an awful pain. I really wish my brother would learn to potty train. Messy Room by Rachel Age 11
My sister's room is ugly, it's the worst one I have seen. The walls were once a glowing yellow, now they're limy-green. I am frightened of the blue stuff oozing from each wall. Her clothes are sprung about the room, it's full of things that crawl. The bed is turned right upside-down, she spilt a box of tacks. There's cookie crumbs and sticky gum, and rotten moldy snacks. There's toothpaste squirted on the ceiling, also on the floor. There's glops of sticky chocolate growing moldy on the door. My sister's room is ugly, it's the worst one in the world, and aren't I just one lucky girl to share that room with her. Running Rushing River by Elicia Age 14
The Running Rusher River is all that I see I look out my window and that is what is looking back at me Beyond the Running Rushing River is a forest A Big Bad Bushy forest, it looks back at me and scares me But when I look at the Running Rushing River, it smiles and seems to say "hello" But the Big Bad Bushy forest is always looming over the Running Rushing River The Running Rushing River can never get away I have a choice, but the Running Rushing River must always be haunted I wish I could help it, but never can I. never will I Love Letters by Chelsea Age 16
how do I tell you how much I care I could never tell you to your face I wouldn’t dare I really think you should know what I feel but how do I tell you in a way that’s real should I send a rose or a dancing teddy bear a singing telegram or a loving stare but when I considered those I thought of something better I decided to send you a corny love letter The Right Path by Kristina Age 11
I am your angel, I will guide you to the right path. If your decision is right I will help you to the next right path. If your destination is wrong I will help you battle the rough things out. So no matter what path you take good, or bad I am with you always. River Seamstress by Elida Age 12
I am the seamstress, the founder, the maker, I am responsible for this flowing beauty. By my own hands, I did weave, Strand by strand, my precious baby, My personality. By my own time, I did set, The ebb and the flow, my whole life, My peace keeper. By my own harp, I did tune, The whoosh and the stir, music to my ears, My lullaby. Sweep me away, my child does My pride and joy, my happiness and woe, My River, cool and hazy. Cheetah by Yassamin Age 9
The cheetahs eyes are as gold as treasure the cheetah has as many spots as all the stars in space the cheetah feels as soft and silky as the white clouds in the sky the cheetah looks as beautiful and scary as a bears claw the cheetah is one of the animals in the circle of Life. My Book by Sandra Age 12
I have a storyteller, sitting next to me. He tells of funny people, and places far away. He reads me stories, and sometimes poems, too. He's there night and day, waiting for me and you! Turquoise Sky by Maura Age 12
Under the beautiful turquoise sky, I believe that I can fly. Into the night, into the air, I hope that you will really won't care. Under the beautiful turquoise sky, the night swiftly passes by. The moon will fall, the sun will rise, all under the beautiful turquoise sky. June Short Stories: Walking and Thinking By Genee Age 16 Walking side by side- thinking Why couldn’t she be there? Where has she gone? Knowing I will never see her again. Everyday thinking Why? What could I have done? Why not me? How could this happen to me? She was my only, My favorite, Someone who knew what life was about, Someone who lived it, And now she’s gone for ever- Never to be seen again, Until the day comes The day comes to take me To the better place She was my only My favorite And I loved her She was my sister.
Worlds of Illusions by James Age 11 I was just doing the daily chores. I milked the cows, fed the cows, and fed the chickens. I also fed the cat, while my husband, Alix, worked the land. Then I saw...something run across the field and vanished with a flash of blinding light. "What the..." Alix said at it. Then I realized it was, well, blue... Suddenly our cat, Catty, jumped up and ran to the spot where the blue thing was. He looked as if he were looking down a hole. He has never done this, so I decided to follow him. Yes, there was a hole, with a black flame at the bottom. It swirled and swirled until it got to the top. By the time Alix had arrived at the hole, that flame had turned white. Then all the colours of the rainbow. Then it turned black again. It twirled and burst out of the hole and turned the world dark... Foot Prints Everywhere by Nayla Age 8
One day , Detective Maggie woke up from her bad dream. In her dream, she saw foot prints everywhere! She went to tell her mom. The Open Window by Danie Age 10
One afternoon I came home from school to discover that my bedroom window was open. I was so scared and I didn't know what to do. No one was ever at my house at that time of the day, but I had a feeling someone was. I ran to our neighbors house to see if she saw anything. She had a note on the door telling her husband she was at the doctors office. So I went to the next house and asked if I could borrow their phone. I called my Mom but she wasn't at work. So I called my Dad. He said she went home sick. I told him how frightened I was because my window was opened. I also told him that Mom wasn't there because her car wasn't in the driveway. He laughed and said that her car broke down so she took a cab. Then half way home she noticed she forgot her keys then she remembered the key in her pocket to your window. We both started laughing. That was the scariest time of my life. The Princess and The Frog by Susanna Age 11
Once upon a time, there was a lovely princess. Her name was "Princess." She didn't like her name because all the other princesses of the land had real names, like Princess Lenora and Princess Elizabeth. She was just "Princess and the other princesses teased her. One lovely sunny evening, Princess went to Moonlight Lake. She looked at her reflection and she told herself that she was just as good as all the other princesses. Suddenly, a small frog popped out of the water. "Hello," said the frog "my name is frog." Princess, shocked that the little frog could talk, but not wanting to be rude by not answering, replied "My name is Princess. I live in the Sunrise Castle..." Frog listened closely as Princess talked on, and on, and on. "That's funny," Frog said after Princess was done talking "your name is Princess, and you are a princess. My name is Frog, and I am a frog." "I never thought about that!" Princess said, very excited. "All the other frogs make fun of me." Frog said. "All the princesses make fun of me too!" said Princess. "I think it's better to have a name that describes you, rather than a name that makes no sense." Frog said, standing high. "But if all the princesses were named 'Princess,' it would be confusing." said Princess "Your right. We are very unique and special." Frog said. "Well, good bye! I will always remember you." Said Princess. "So long!" said Frog, as he hopped back on a lilypad. Princess walked away, feeling a lot better. She sniffed the air, it smelled like Granny's pancakes. Princess turned around to try to see the frog one last time, but he was nowhere to be seen. Princess skipped back to the castle, as happy as ever. Now she didn't feel as bad. Before she thought that she didn't have a name, but she did. It was a beautiful, unique name. Princess would always remember Frog. Princess went into her bedroom, and feel asleep. A Gift From God by Meghan Age 11
Sometimes, we take the most special things for granted. It all started with a simple pain. I didn't know how serious it was. Before I knew it, I was in the hospital. Everything was white. The waiting room was filled with tears. It was the day before Christmas and I could hear Christmas Carols being sung to the person next-door. I lay there, in my uncomfortable bed as my mother held my hand. Her tears hit my hand, and rolled onto the bed. She started to pray. I was talking to God the whole time. I was starting to get pale. She hugged me, and all of a sudden, my bed felt like a brand new feather bed. My scratchy sheets felt like layers of silk. And I felt a certain warmness that I could compare to nothing. My skin started to turn to its regular color. I saw in the hallway, 3 little children getting gifts. They were all very excited. But I knew that I had gotten the best gift of all. A gift from God. Growing Up by Ashley Age 10
I am growing up......everyone can tell because I can dress myself,go potty all by myself, I can feed myself,I can ride my bike,I can swim (in the baby pool.),and most of all I can make my own cereal.I may be growing up but I am not moving out......atleast not for a couple years. THE END Wouldn't That Be Strange by Katie
When Christopher Columbus decided the world must be round, everyone was appalled. "A round world! Why, that can't be possible! The king says the world is flat!" Good ol' Chris walked away and the people chortled. "A round world! Wouldn't that be strange..................................." When George Washington dreamed of independence from Britain, the people were flabbergasted. "Independence! That can never be!" Young George walked away, and the people guffawed. "Independence! Wouldn't that be strange............................" When the Wright brothers discovered a way to build a machine so people could fly, everyone was dismayed. "People, flying! Good luck!" The brothers walked away, and the people chuckled. "To be able to fly! Wouldn't that be strange.........................." Now, when I say I'm going to be the first female president of the United States, everyone is dumbfounded. "Her, the president of the U.S.? Get real!" I hang my head and walk away and the people snicker. "A female president! Wouldn't that be strange....................." The Tale Of A Lonely Lady by Eden Age 11
Once upon a time, there was an old lady named Doris that had no family living, no friends, or no pets. She lived on the edge of a small town called friendlyville. Right across the street was a Malt Shop, and a general store. One day when it was raining out Doris walked a few blocks down town to pick up some candles, because the storm had knocked off her electricity. She bought the candles and on her way out of the store she bumped into a tall, handsome man just about her age. Her candles fell to the ground and snapped in two. The man offered to buy her new ones and give her a ride home. When he bought the candles, he escorted her to his car and gave her a ride home. When they got there Doris asked him if he wanted to stay for stew and bread, he said yes and they enjoyed a delicious candle lit meal with a light, relaxing sound, "pitter patter pitter patter" they became good friends and eventually got married. They had no children of course, but they lived happily ever after. The End
